Shah Rukh Khan on Twitter?

by nidhi on January 31, 2009

@ShahRukh_Khan – is it really him?? Only time will tell.

SRK's Twitter page

I love the background image. So he has 4 updates as of now, 31 followers and isn’t following anyone yet. I wonder if it’s really him…. or is it some PR person…. and if so, I kinda wonder how much he’s paying this PR person. Because that is a job I would LOVE to have! [click to continue…]

Blogertize.in – Pros and Cons

by nidhi on January 29, 2009

Just got off the phone with Dushyant Bhatia, the 23 year old CEO of Blogertize.in which has been gaining quite some hype and was even featured on KillerStartups.

blogertize

ABOUT BLOGERTIZE

Blogertize is a young startup advertising firm-meets-online shopping portal. In fact, it’s only a few months old and was started in Sept 2008. They’re selling ad spaces to bloggers for $15 – $150 (Rs. 750 – Rs. 7,500) for a period of 3 years using pixel advertising – selling a certain number of pixels (2,000px, 4,000px etc.) at different prices. Bloggers can upload an image or the logo of their blog on this space. Roll over the image, and the blog description comes up. Here’s an idea of what the ads would look like. Gotta say, the design isn’t impressive thus far. [click to continue…]

Here’s a quick post while I’m working on my other, longer post-review on www.blogertize.in

picture-2

As you may have noticed, there’s a ton of Twitter apps out there and more coming out everyday. It can be a little overwhelming if you haven’t used any of them, how do you know where to start! Lucky for all of us amateur-tweople, @NischalShetty has begun to compile a list of Twitter apps at http://www.twi5.com (you can follow updates at @twi5). He breaks it down very well, explaining in simple English what the plus points of each app is. You should check the site out, even if you’re a seasoned tweeter, you may find something you’ve missed out on!

And Nischal’s  updating the site very often, since people are constantly recommending new apps for him.

Here’s one that isn’t up there yet that my friend @paulou recommended: twistori. It’s really cool, tracks all the tweets out there that have the words love, hate, think, believe, feel and wish.  The site has a gorgeous design as well – and is now my mac screensaver. Yay!

Wow, it’s been a while since my last post. This one’s going to be about Slumdog Millionaire, in honor of its release in India today (even though I’m pretty sure a large number have already seen it online or on DVD!).

The movie’s pretty good, has some wonderful shots of Bombay that you don’t see in the typical Bollywood cop-chase in the slums. The movie makes the slums look so scenic, almost tranquil.  I love how the plot ties in with the show Kaun Banega Crorepati (or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire as it is in the movie). The movie was based on a book by Vikas Swarup, Q&A (Amazon for only $18 – my roommate and I are dying to read it). The plot in the book sounds a bit different, apparently Jamal goes to jail and has a lawyer. Interesting stuff.

But ofcourse, being a Mumbaikar, I had to pick up on every-non Indian thing in the movie! [click to continue…]

Funny (& Creepy) Indian TV ads

by nidhi on December 7, 2008

Taking a short break from life… here are some funny (read: bizarre) Indian commercials…

I think this one is for a TV channel or something.

-

Hutch: Bond is in Town. Don’t know how relevant it is to Hutch… but it’s a great ad. Love the visuals.

Live NDTV news stream is available at: http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/video/video_live.aspx?id=0

Twitter is following the news mostly at #mumbai

@Gauravonomics has been posting links to articles related to the attacks (follow him twitter if you aren’t already). As well as stats about online media usage and spikes in twitter usage following the attacks.

@MumbaiUpdates has been posting a lot of updates too (don’t know how trustworthy these are yet)

ALSO, yes, ALSO, there’s a debate going on about how reliable all the Twitter info on the subject is. So take everything with a pinch of salt, because nothing -not even news- is a 100% reliable while everything’s in such chaos. [click to continue…]

Interview with the guys behind iTwote!

by nidhi on November 21, 2008

A week ago, three guys got together and set out on the quest to find the most famous Indian twitter, and to crown him/her the Twitter Guru.

Sounds like a movie eh? But this really happened, just last week! The three guys, Danish, Preshit and Vijayendra decide to experiment with a twitter contest, iTwote. Tweople (people on twitter) were asked to nominate someone they thought deserved the title of TwitterGuru. The list was narrowed down to five, and then on Nov. 17th the tweople voted, crowing vimoh the Guru.

Personally, I think the contest was awesome. It was a great way to get to know some tweople, and it was fun. But how’d they come up with this idea? Why? and now what? Fortunately, the guys were sweet enough to answer these questions for me. [click to continue…]

Sorry I’ve been AWOL, I’ve been busy researching/drafting the paper part of my thesis… I’m reading The New Influencers right now, it’s an amazing book and a great resource for information about bloggers/blogging. Anyhow, here’s an awesome video I found on Adage. Apparently Disney’s trying to make Mickey and co. relevant to Indians. And with this video, they’re doing a great job… I grew up watching American Disney shows in which everyone eats ‘peanut butter and jelly sandwiches’ whereas in India we have ‘jam toast.’ So it’s great to see Mickey trying to make boondi laddoos and Donald Duck trying to make Jalebis! (indian sweets we eat during the Hindu New Year, Diwali) I don’t know if the general public in India has been exposed to these ads, but I’ll ask around and get back to you. Enjoy!

Celebrities, Blogs & the Benefits

by nidhi on November 3, 2008

I’m pretty fascinated by the celebrity blogging trend that’s going on in Bollywood. Apparently it all started back in 2007 when Aamir Khan’s Lagaan was ready to be release in India on DVD (the movie got nominated for an Oscar in 2002, remember? the cricket movie, almost 4 hours long…) Anyhoo, Aamir Khan decided to put up a blog on the dvd website and it received a lot of attention from his fans. And now everyone wants to blog. So I started compiling a list of how the celebs themselves benefit, and how the sites that host these blogs benefit. [click to continue…]
