Was browsing news at Agency Faqs and came across an article on Voice Blogging: Too lazy to type? Voice blogging may help. The article explains what voice blogging is (not to be confused with vlogging which stands for video-blogging). And how social networking site Ibibo just introduced this feature 2 weeks ago. Then I read:
Bloggers, however, are worried about the cost of creating voice blogs. “Using a traditional voice recorder and then uploading that audio file costs nothing. But, when calling up a number is involved which is, for instance, a Delhi number, then a blogger from Kerala or Malaysia may not want to spend much,” said Neena Reuben, a blogger.
Having lived outside India so long (seven years), I keep forgetting the different stages technology is at there. Of course not everyone has a Mac laptop with a built in mic! (I blame Emerson for making me forget that – everyone has a mac laptop at Emerson). The majority of the country is still accessing the internet through their desktop PCs. Also, Indians are blogging from all over the nation, not just the bigger cities! There might be a difference in the technology accessible to them… if there’s any difference at all.
As a marketing professional-to-be, I need to keep reminding myself of this — when I finally get the chance to work on a nationwide online campaign in India, I need to be able to shape campaigns so that everyone can enjoy it. Make sure that people whose internet is too slow for YouTube videos can access other content, make sure that interactive campaigns don’t revolve around the existence of built in webcams and mics, and so on.
It’ll involve research, that’s for sure! I wish there were reports on Indians’ internet habits like the ones at Pew Internet and American Life Project.
Have any of you faced problems like this when working on campaigns?
